The cultural relevance of Kaya Kambe
The Kayas are forested islands that have been preserved for cultural reasons until today and are still valuable refuges for the culture, the Kaya Elders, as well as biodiversity. Based on interviews with the local people (representatives of the Elders of Kaya Kambe and the people around this kaya), the current willingness to protect this forest fragment was determined. With these results, the cultural value of the Kaya Kambe is recorded, and potential conflicts between generations (modern life of the young generation vs traditional practices and ways of life of the elders), as well as conflicts between benefits and protection are identified. This working package was realized by Tracy Apiyo Antamgo (Pwani University), Miriam Lüning, Jan Meyer, Marlon Wichmann (University of Vechta), John Nene Kageca, David Karanja Wambui, Martin Mbugua Muriithi, Timothy Musa (all Pwani University), and supervised by Prof. Dr. Halimu Shauri (Pwani University) and Alexandra Reith (University of Vechta).
