Population ecology of butterflies
Mark-Release-Recapture is a commonly used method to collect meaningful data on the population ecology of butterflies. In this working package we conducted an intense mark-release-recapture campaign on selected (forest) butterfly species. For this, individuals were netted, marked with a waterproof pen, then geolocated with a GPS device, and subsequently released. MRR was conducted along a transect through the forest. Besides the netting of selected species, bait trapping was used to attract some very mobile and fast butterflies of the Charaxes genus. In addition, a detailed land use mapping was conducted to subsequently overlay both, MRR data and land use details. Based on the obtained data we will analyse the population structure, mobility, and habitat preference. This working package was supervised by Jan C.
