Land use and Land cover change

Demographic pressure and poor land management have led to a strong and very rapid change in land use and land cover. Thus, agriculturally used areas, settlement areas and degraded land have increased significantly across major parts of Ethiopia, while near-natural and intact ecosystems have been degraded or destroyed. On the basis of historical aerial photographs and recent high-resolution satellite images we will quantify land use change and the decrease of forest cover. We will analyse the composition and configuration of the landscape. This working package will be mainly supervised by Mike Teucher (MLU Halle)
