Vegetation ecology
The last cloud forest fragments of the Taita Hills are very small and suffer from different anthropogenic disturbances, such as the planting of exotic tree species (like eucalyptus), the selective logging of trees, and the collection of dead wood (among other activities). Plant diversity was surveyed on 10x10m working plots in differentially disturbed forest fragments. For this purpose, the tree species were determined, as well as the regeneration rate. In addition, the stem diameter (DBH) was determined. This work package is being handled by Ephie Lumumba, Benard Adwar, James Mwangi, and supervised by Prof. Christine Schmitt (UP) and Kennedy Matheka (NMK).
