Ecology of bird species

In the still partially intact church forests, numerous typical forest bird species can be found. A group working on birds observed and caught bird individuals with mist-nets, visual and acoustic approaches. Bird observations were done in the church forest, along the forest edge, and in adjoining agricultural landscapes. The data collected will allow potential conclusions about negative edge effects and will give insights in the status of the habitat quality of the church forest. This study was supervised by Beate Apfelbeck (University of Salzburg), in collaboration with Onesmus Kioko (NMK), Amare Gebru (EBI) and Samson Zelleke. The following students were involved: Teshager Akinaw, Birhanu Legesse, Lucia Ehlenz and Leonie Hauck.
